Excellent question. Speed cameras take two pictures in quick succession (ever noticed the double flash of the camera strobe light?). The time linking the photographs is known and the distance travelled by vehicles linking the initially and second photo is measured. As speed = distance/time, a simple calculation reveals which vehicles in the photos are speeding and which aren’t.

So here’s no need to worry!

The car speeding in the outside lane would be captured initially. The camera is only searching for the car that exceeds the given speed limit. If you are going the assess speed, then you won’t be captured unless, here is a technical problem with the camera itself.

The car that is speeding would be the one that would be captured by the camera because the camera tracks your speed when coming up on it.
    Hope this answers your question.
